FirstClass provides an AI-based essay analysis and feedback tool designed to help students improve their academic writing. The service includes:
FirstClass is an educational aid only. It does not guarantee any specific grade outcome and should not be used as a substitute for your own academic work or institutional guidance.
To use FirstClass you must create an account. You are responsible for keeping your login credentials secure. You must not share your account with others or use it for commercial purposes beyond your own personal study.
You must be at least 13 years old to create an account. If you are under 18, you confirm that a parent or guardian has reviewed and agreed to these terms.
Where you register using an email address, you must verify your email before accessing the service.
The free plan provides 7,500 words of essay analysis per month at no charge. No credit card is required. Free plan users have access to full examiner feedback, sentence heatmap, argument map, grade history, and one essay plan per month. The essay planner on the free plan shows the thesis, examiner tip, hook and word budget only – the full paragraph structure is a Pro feature. Draft comparison is limited to 3 uses per week.
The Pro plan is billed at £9.99 per month. Payment is processed securely by Stripe. By subscribing you authorise us to charge your payment method on a recurring monthly basis until you cancel.
Pro plan users receive 75,000 words of analysis per month, unlimited grade history, source verification with DOI and citation counts, tailored sentence rewrites, PDF report download, draft comparison (up to 20 per week), and the full essay planner including complete paragraph structure, evidence suggestions, counter-argument handling, and First-class moves (up to 10 plans per week).
You may cancel your Pro subscription at any time from your account profile under Manage billing. Cancellation takes effect at the end of your current billing period – you will retain Pro access until that date. We do not offer partial refunds for unused time within a billing period.
Under the UK Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013, you have a 14-day right to cancel a digital service and receive a full refund. However, under Regulation 36, this right is waived where you have expressly requested that the service begins immediately and acknowledged this in writing.
During checkout, you will be asked to confirm: "I request that access to FirstClass Pro begins immediately and understand that by using the service I waive my 14-day right to cancel under the Consumer Contracts Regulations 2013." By ticking this confirmation and proceeding to payment, you waive your right to a cooling-off refund once you have used the service.
If you subscribe but do not use the service (i.e. submit no essay analyses) within 14 days, you retain the right to cancel and receive a full refund. To request this, contact us at hello@1stclass-ai.com within 14 days of your initial subscription.
We do not offer refunds for partial months or unused word allowance beyond the above statutory right.
We may change our subscription price with 30 days' notice. You will be notified by email and may cancel before the new price takes effect.
Word usage resets monthly on your billing anniversary date. Unused words do not roll over to the following month. Usage is tracked based on the total words processed in each API request – both your essay and the generated feedback count toward your monthly allowance.

FirstClass is a feedback and learning tool. We provide analysis and suggestions – the writing itself remains yours. It is your responsibility to understand and comply with your school or university's policies on AI tool usage. We do not submit work on your behalf and do not claim authorship of any essay you write.
You retain ownership of the essays you submit. By submitting an essay, you grant us a limited licence to process it for the sole purpose of generating feedback for you. We do not use your essays to train AI models or share them with third parties.
The FirstClass platform, software, design, and content are owned by us and protected by intellectual property law. You may not copy or reproduce any part of the platform without our written permission.
FirstClass uses large language model AI to generate essay feedback and grade estimates. While we calibrate the system carefully to UK university marking standards, you must understand the following limitations before using the service:
Source suggestions are verified against academic databases but you should always confirm sources exist and are accurately described before citing them.
We make no warranty that use of this service will result in any specific grade outcome or improvement.
To the fullest extent permitted by UK law, we are not liable for any indirect, incidental, or consequential damages arising from your use of FirstClass, including any impact on your academic results. Our total liability to you in any month shall not exceed the amount you paid us in that month.
Nothing in these terms limits our liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, fraud, or anything else that cannot be excluded by law.
We may suspend or terminate your account if you breach these terms. You may delete your account at any time from your profile settings, which will permanently erase your personal data including all saved essays, usage records, and account information.
To prevent abuse of the free tier, we retain a one-way cryptographic hash (SHA-256) of your email address after account deletion. This hash cannot be reversed to identify you and does not constitute personal data under UK GDPR. It is used solely to detect repeated free trial registrations with the same email address. This retention is based on our legitimate interest in preventing fraudulent use of the service.
We may update these terms from time to time. We will notify you of material changes by email or by a notice on the platform at least 14 days before they take effect. Continued use of the service after that date constitutes acceptance.
These terms are governed by the laws of England and Wales. Any disputes shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of England and Wales.
